A: Plainly put, yes, you will need a degree. (preferably in a field related to education, English or psychology) Regardless of how we feel about experience, this is a necessary accessory for a legal working VISA.
A: We are currently open to applicants who are between the ages of 23 and 50, however, we are open to any age if the experience is there.
A: All BBT English contracts are signed for a full-year or longer.
A: The cost of living in China is not as high as USA or UK. Ultimately, this means your salary can support you living in China in a certain degree of luxury. The average ‘new’ or ‘nice’ apartments in Guangzhou start at around 5500RMB / month. However, they can also reach a lot higher. With a cost-saving mind, one should be able to save around 50-40% of their salary each month.
A: Teaching in general, is a very rewarding experience. However, teaching in China, offers you a chance to be a part of a child’s educational journey; all the while enjoying a flexible schedule which allows you to travel around China and other countries. Teaching in our centers gives the teachers the freedom of creativity to utilize, not only the curriculum we provide, but also implementing other exciting topics as well.
A: The class sizes at BBT English are 1 teacher to 4 students. We also have the head teacher there for communicating with the parents and staying on top of the students learning progress.
A: Unfortunately, not. Applicants with criminal records will fail the Chinese VISA application process. Those with criminal records are therefore advised not to apply. Applicants are also advised to be very honest about their situation. Pretending that you do not have a criminal record when you do WILL result in a large waste of money on your behalf, when your VISA papers are ultimately rejected.
A: Yes! You are encouraged to. Each friend that you refer to us as native full-time, can bring you in a very nice referral bonus! It is up to you if you want to split it with them or not.
A: If you come here expecting the food to be like your local Chinese restaurant in your home country, it is not quite the same. However, there are a lot of similarities between the two variants; sometimes for the better! The local food in China is extremely flavorful and not so expensive. There are some places which sell some ‘unique’ dishes that may not tickle your fancy, but generally, the food is ‘normal’ to a foreigner’s mind.
A: The weather in Guangzhou is typically humid and hot most of the year, as it is a tropical climate. However, between the months of November and Late January or Early February, it does get quite cold. Although, it rarely ever snows in Guangzhou, the high humidity makes the cold more than it is, so it is a good idea to bundle up in the winter and pack a lot of water in the summer!
A: It can be a scary thing; moving to a new country alone. However, you can feel rest assured that our staff at BBT will do what we can to make you feel welcome and the other teachers you work with will be set up with a monthly budget for exciting activities for you to plan! Some of our teachers have been in China for longer than 5 or even 10 years and they are still going strong in China.
A: No. Once arriving to China, you will work with us to change your visa into a resident permit (standard process). This will allow you to leave the country freely and still re-enter.
A: Yes. All of our contracts are full-time contracts at 24 teaching hours per week.
A: We cannot force you to buy travel insurance. However, it is always a good idea to keep yourself in ‘safe thoughts’ during any trip you take. We do offer health insurance to all of our full-time candidates.
A: Don’t worry, not everyone is fit for China. Some realize this early and some later, but we will do everything we can to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible. This being said, we will not hold you against your will... If you end up deciding it is not what you expected, we have a 30-day notice policy which you are able to give us a 30-day notice and in turn, we will be able to sort out all of your classes to other teachers.
